We are lucky to be in a city that thrives on offering lots of ways to celebrate, gather and have a great time! There are some places in the city centre that can offer this for all generations of the family.

My mind turns to a great excuse this Summer for a family to get together and celebrate, Father’s Day. What a fantastic opportunity to let Dad, Grandad, Uncle, or any other treasured Father figure know that he is appreciated and loved. There’s no better way to do it than with a day of activities, followed by an evening of amazing food.

There’s plenty of opportunity for both in our vibrant Birmingham.

Why not head to Lane7 in the Bullring. It hosts a numerous choice of activities to turn your hand to, including bowling, curling, karaoke, pool, shooting and for the families of adults…beer pong.

You can do one activity or pick a selection, depending on your budget. Our family loved the bowling, followed by the interactive shooting game. Prepare for a few family gripes as the competition ramps up between you!

If golf is more your thing, I suggest a round of mini golf as a family at Treetop Golf, also in the Bullring. Make your way through the tropical jungle or ancient ruin themed courses, competing to take as few strokes as possible to sink that ball into the hole. Don’t forget to try your luck on the ‘19th hole’ to win a free round of Adventure golf.

If your family is all grown up and looking for a more adult golfing environment this Father’s Day, then get your mini golf in at Golf Fang in the Custard Factory in Digbeth. You’ll still enjoy original and creatively themed mini golf adventures, but the cocktails can flow whilst you’re doing it!

Another activity that Dad may enjoy is spending time driving Formula 1 cars, racing the rest of the family…..all whilst never leaving the bar. Get the best of both worlds at F1 Arcade at 2 Chamberlain Square. Race each other or beat your own time in a bar full of F1 simulators. Just select your skill level and put your foot down…you’re away! Just be aware the minimum racing age is 7 and it’s adults only after 8pm.

When your competitive streaks are satisfied, you’ll be ready for a fantastic meal.

There’s nowhere better for family members of all generations to gather, than Chung Ying Cantonese Restaurant in the heart of China Town, Birmingham. It’s just a short walk or drive from all four activity locations. They have one of the largest Dim Sum menus in the UK and offer a number of family Banquet style menus, if that’s more your thing. Chung Ying is used to hosting multi-generational groups, all the way until closing time. You will not find Cantonese food of higher quality or a staff more enthusiastic about serving it.

Whatever you decide to do, remember to show the father figure in your life, whoever that may be, your love and appreciation in any way that you can on this special day.
